A high-level team of BJP lead coalition government in Tripura lead by Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma Thursday met the Bru agitators at Kanchanpur in North Tripura District and assured them of providing free ration until they move to Mizoram. Following the assurance, the Brus who have been agitating in Ashapara village in Kanchanpur demanding for resuming free ration has withdrawn their blockade.
Free rationing was stopped by the Union Government's Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) from October 1 to make them repatriate to Mizoram.

While addressing the agitating Brus in Kanchanpur today, the deputy CM Jishnu Dev Varma said, "Tripura government shall initiate a process of providing free ration to you. The ration will start from tomorrow onwards." He said, "I have already directed the concerned DM and other officials to immediately initiate a process of dispatching free ration."
"The Tripura government will soon sit with the Bru leaders at Agartala to discuss the problems and solutions on it," said Jishnu.
Jishnu lead the six members’ team today which comprised of Tribal welfare minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia, social welfare minister Santana Chakma, state education and law minister Ratan Lal Nath, MP Pratima Bhoumik and MP Rebati Tripura.
