As the Lok Sabha battle in West Bengal reaches the home stretch, Bengal Renaissance figure Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar has now become a poll issue following the vandalism of his statue during BJP President Amit Shah's road show here. This perhaps has also evoked series if reaction among the opposition parties.
While the opposition parties are targeting the Saffron supporters’ over vandalism of the statue, the BJP President in Tripura also the Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb accused the TMC supporters and made them responsible for bringing down the statue of Vidyasagar.
"It's a political drama and conspiracy instigated by Mamata Banarjee government to target BJP in Bengal," adding to this Mr. Deb claimed, "BJP workers were not involved with this incident as the TMC workers were found to be in charge of this college, where the statue was erected."
Deb said, right from the beginning, there was an attempt to incite the BJP workers as posters banners of PM Modi were removed.
Meantime, the opposition Congress party in Tripura also showed protest. The protest was lead by NSUI which accused BJP of provoking such incidents. Whereas, the CPIM National General Secretary Sitaram Yechury condemned the incident and targeted both the BJP and TMC on this in his tweet.
