The tribal youths in Tripura today observed 111th birth anniversary of architect of modern Tripura Maharaj Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya in Agartala remembering his contribution in development planning of the state. The tribal youths from different social organisation and schools took part in a colourful rally marched here at the capital town to mark the day.
The grandson of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya – Maharaja Pradyot Kishore Debbarman along with the grand daughter Pradgya Devi took part in this rally to remember their grandfather. The rally named as – ‘Prabhat Feri’ is organised by the Maharaja Bir Bikram Welfare Society.
Pragya while attending the rally said, “During the time of Maharaja Bir Bikram, people of Tripura worked united to develop this state. Now we want to work united following the path of Maharaja Bir Bikram so as to develop this state and fulfil the dream of Maharaja of making modern Tripura.”
“Maharaja contributed a lot for the state of Tripura and played a vital role towards rescuing the Nation from British rule,” she added. Meantime, the Tripura’s royal scion Maharaja Pradyot Kishore Debbarman today also offered a floral tribute to the statue of Maharaja Bir Bikram here at Agartala MBB airport premise.
Besides, to mark the birth anniversary of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya, the Indian national Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage, Tripura Chapter has organised an exhibition depicting the life and times of the Maharaja. The exhibition is organised here at Agartala Chandra Mahal Palace.
Bir Bikram Kishore was considered to be the last king of Tripura in practical sense and he was succeeded by his son Kirit Bikram Kishore Manikya just before attaining independence in August 1947 but Kirit Bikram was minor.
