Trilingual Kokborok dictionary Kokribam Bijab launched

In an attempt to foster the Kokborok language, state’s second most spoken language of the state, the ADC administration has on Monday launched a trilingual dictionary—“Kokribam Bijab” containing 30 to 35 thousand words along with another book “Jadunir Boi Tipra”.

Both the books were launched at Nuuai auditorium of Khwumulwang. Addressing the programme, Chief Executive Member TTAADC Radhacharan Debbarma said, both the books will be proved as a landmark in the history of Kokborok language. It will also live up to the expectations of Kokborok speaking citizens of the state, he hoped.

“Both the books are research-oriented. Historical references since the language came into existence could be traced out in the books. The extinct cultural essence and linguistic practices have special mentions in the books” he said adding that it would act as a tool to revive the language.

He also thanked the people who worked wholeheartedly to give conclusive apparel to both the publications. “Till now about 200 books have been published in Kokborok. All these publications are amalgamations of theories collected through several workshops, research works conducted at different times and borrowing vocabulary from other languages” he told the programme.

He also claimed that in comparison to other ADCs Tripura ADC was far more superior in terms of protecting culture and linguistic practices of the indigenous people.

Notably, Executive Member Information And Cultural Affairs department Parikshit Murasingh also remained present on the occasion along with other higher officials.
