A morning chill descended on the capital as the minimum temperature plunged to 13.3 degree Celsius today. Agartalites woke up to a pleasantly cold weather on Wednesday morning.
However, the maximum temperature recorded was 26.7 degree Celsius which was below normal for this time of the year.
In the evening, residents finally put on the jackets and mufflers that they had taken out of storage for the winter. “I have been feeling the cold wind. It seems that the chill has finally arrived”, said Dipayan Choudhury, a resident of Ramnagar.
The city felt a slight shiver as the minimum temperature dropped and it will be chilly through the weekend. “The chill indicates the arrival of winter”, said Dilip Saha, Director of Regional MeT office, tonight over telephone.
The winter chill is likely to strengthen over the next few days, as the mercury level- both at night and during the day is expected to go down. “The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to go down over the next few days. The wintery feeling will enhance at least for the next few days”, the Regional Weather Office added.
MeT officials predicted, “There will be dense fog in the morning. It will affect the visibility. The relative humidity is also falling. The next few days will have the maximum temperature stand around the 28 degree C mark”.
Expectedly, Agartalites will enjoy the drop in temperature at the weekend. Places like Sepahijala Sanctuary, Neermahal, Eco Parks etc. are likely to see record crowds in the days to come.
