The Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Tuesday inaugurated ERSS control room and flagged off emergency response vehicles here at Agartala Indranagar IT Bhawan and also launched the single emergency helpline number '112' for immediate assistance.
The '112' helpline is an integration of police (100), fire (101) and women (1090) helpline numbers and the project is being implemented under the central government's Nirbhaya Fund while the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) envisages a single pan-India emergency number '112', which is an internationally recognised number, to target all types of emergencies..
Chief Minister while inaugurating the system today has said from now on the citizens of Tripura can simply dial the toll free number 112 and seek assistance from police instantly.
"This has come up as part of digitalisation drive," adding to this Mr. Deb said, "Several government departments are already digitalised to render quality and comfort service to the people of this state."
The Chief Minister however underlined that the new system shall now expand the grievance redressal system of police and other civic agencies. The ERSS control is installed in the IT bhawan equipped with sophisticated and modern tools seated with highly trained police officials to reduce the police response time.
Similar to US and many other developed countries, India on February this year launched a pan-India service of the single emergency help line number '112'. The single number for emergency services is similar to '911' in the United States.
