Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers is presenting a special event commemorating the birth centenary of the one and only Manna Dey, at Mahajati Sadan, Kolkata, on 30th April.
Manna Dey, we all know, was a legend in his lifetime who was admired by his peers in the yesteryears for his signature voice and style, an all-time great who is respected by maestros of the day for his timeless appeal and popularly loved, by a legion of fans, for his evergreen hits from Bengali and Hindi cinema.
Naturally, he has been a household name across India, for generations; and will continue to be so in the years to come.
The commemorative event was a star-studded affair that was high on all the romance about Manna Dey and the audience, packing the auditorium to capacity, responded in the true spirit of the evening.
The programme was inaugurated by Smt Madhabi Mukhopadhyay and the inaugural lamp was lit by Indrani Sen, Manas Chakraborty and Rupak Saha, Director, Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers.
Paying rich tributes to their dear 'Manna Da' were veteran actors, Soumitra Chatterjee and Madhabi Mukhopadhyay, while iconic singers Usha Uthup and Arati Mukhopadhyay set the mood for the evening.
And adding to all the song and dance about Manna Dey were performing stars of the day like Manomoy Bhattacharya, Raghav Chattopadhyay, Sriradha Bandopadhyay, Lopamudra, Saikat Mitra, Pallab Ghosh, Agnivo Bandopadhyay - each with their own repertoire of gems from the Manna Dey treasure-house of timeless songs - with Shantanu Basu as music arranger.
And the event conceptualised by Manas Chakraborty and organised by Sports & Beyond.
"We are overjoyed to present this very special birth centenary commemoration of Manna Dey", said Rupak Saha, Director, Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers, "because he is really one of a kind - like a solitaire diamond - and has left behind a rich legacy which is for always".
"Earlier, we - at Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers - have felicitated maestros of Indian classical music and dance like Pandit Birju Maharaj and Ustad Amjad Ali Khan', added Saha, "and, after commemorating the 90th birth anniversary of legendary composer, Salil Chaudhury, we are really overjoyed to commemorate the birth centenary of the one and only Manna Dey".
