Row over dead body at Churaibari

An unidentified dead body today triggered row confusion between two adjacent police stations—Kadamtala and Churaibari regarding taking charge of the body. Reportedly, an unidentified injured person was brought to the Kadamtala hospital by fire service personnel from Churaibari Netaji Para last evening.

The on-duty doctors declared the patient brought dead. Soon after the doctors realized there was no one to claim the dead-body, they contacted local police station and the dramatic episode got started.

According to the hospital authorities, they first approached Kadamtala police station so that postmortem activities could be performed. Citing jurisdiction, Kadamtala police asked the doctors to contact Churaibari police station as the dead body was found under jurisdiction of Churaibari police station. Ironically, when the doctors contacted Churaibari police station they were asked to contact Kadamtala. However, this act of redressal has left the hospital authorities in a confusing situation as the dead body is still in the hospital morgue unclaimed.

In reference to the incident, it is has been learnt that the deceased was beaten up mercilessly by some locals of Churaibari last evening. “Locals of Churaibari informed us about an injured person spotted at Netaji Para. We accordingly reached their and rescued him. When we admitted him in the hospital, he was declared brought dead” said the on-duty Fire service personnel.

Meanwhile, the incident had triggered massive resentment among the locals. The conduct of police invited criticism from many corridors.
