Re-poll at 24 polling booths under Sonamura subdivision was more or less peaceful today in spite of some sporadic incidents. Sources said that police arrested one TSR jawan Abhijit Sharma to manage the situation after an incident at a booth of Kamrangatali under Dhanpur constituency.
The voters of Muslim community went to cast their vote within strong heat of sunlight avoiding their fasting in Ramjan Month. The turnout of vote was around 70 percent. One voter Alek expressed his opinion saying what necessity of repoll was. However they went silently by casting their vote to the candidate of their choice.
The number of voter was less at almost all polling centers including Manarchak School, Barpathar School and Shantinagar School in comparison to polling on April 11.
Speaking to our correspondent BJP leader of Sepahijala Ratan Das said that their supporters exercised their franchise without fear. He commented that it was an extra gain of BJP in comparison to pervious vote and many opposition voters voted in favour of them.
In reaction the opinion of Sonamura Divisional Secretary of CPM Ratan Saha and Congress leader Mujiboor Islam were more or less similar. They alleged that BJP workers threatened the opposition voters by entering their houses at night on Saturday. CPI-M could not provide polling agent at five polling booths of Nalchar and 4 booths of Dhanpur assembly constituency.
Mujiboor Islam alleged that their voters were largely prevented at five polling stations under Dhanpur assembly constituency. The miscreants of ruling party ransacked the house of Dhanpur Block Congress president Babul Bhowmik.
Meanwhile BJP candidate Pratima Bhowmik refused the allegation of opposition. She said, BJP is ready to go to people once and again avoiding the conspiracy of CPM and Congress.
