Member of the parliament from West Tripura constituency, Pratima Bhowmik today raised the issue Minimum Support Price for rubber in parliament.
After the question answer session, attracting attention of the concerned minister, she said, Tripura secures the second position in production of rubber but the farmers do not get the desired prices of produces. Although, presently, the state is producing 60 thousand tons of rubber, absence of proper procurement prices disheartening the farmers.
The studies revealed, she added, near about 2 lakh farmers are associated with rubber cultivation whereas livelihood of more than 6 lakh people is connected with this industry actively or passively.
“In such circumstances, the central government is requested to look into the matter and take the needful steps” she said. She urged for a minimum support price of Rs. 170 per Kg.
