As soon as poll results were declared is the state, area domination by political parties and intimidation of party workers resurfaced across an already politically charged state.
While the most serious among cases were reported in the Bisalgarh, Teliamura, Santirbazar, Belonia, Sekerkote and some of suburb pockets of the city, numerous incidents of partisan violence are being alleged by nearly all major political parties in several other parts of the state as well. Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb took strong exception to the incidents and accordingly asked all the officials to take stern actions to thwart any of such further attempts in a rapid note.
Reportedly, a BJP booth president’s shop was robbed by unknown miscreants at ONGC first gate today. The parking slot managers of Agartala Railway station were also attacked by some unknown miscreants. After the attack all of them fled away and no one of the victims could identified the workers. At Kathaltali, three shops were reduced to ashes when a group of people set the shops ablaze. Some reports of attacks on Congress workers were also reported at Ramnagar, Kumaritilla, and East Pratapgarh.
At Siddhi Asram, after a daylong episode of tension yesterday, Jaydip Chakraborty, Kartik Das and Tulsi Pal along with some Mahila Morcha leaders were attacked late in the night. Local sources confirmed that the attack was pre-planned and was carried out to avenge the earlier action.
Our Teliamura correspondent adds, tension prevailed at Terliamura as a group overenthusiastic ruling party supporters attacked several opposition party leaders last night. Congress leader Sima Sutradhar and Bivas Saha were attacked with sharp weapons. House of Subir Sen, a local CPIM leader, was set in flame. His vehicles were also torched down to ashes. Similar attacks were carried out on the houses of Prasanta Debnath and Amalesh Saha.
Moreover, one Nepal Das, an employ of Teliamura SDM office also faced attack while returning home. Besides, several cases of such violence reported at the areas like Netajinagar, Rajnagar, Tuichribdai, Trishabari and many more. Locals, however, also alleged that the role of police was not up to the in preventing the incidents. Near about thirty people were hospitalized after episode violence that lasted whole night, yesterday.
Bisalgarh block Congress president Haradhan Debnath, Congress leaders Bidyot Ghosh and Jaidul Hossain were attacked last night by a bike ridden group. Congress block president Priyalal Das of CPIM also faced the same. A group of miscreants barged into Priyalal’s house and destroyed interior of his residence.
Notably, FIRs were lodged with all the local police stations. In some cases some culprits were also identified and accordingly search operations were also started. According to police sources, the police have identified as many as nine culprits in the Siddhi Asram incident and soon they will be tracked down in the police net. Another highly placed source in the police department said, none of such untoward incidents will be tolerated and law will take its own course.
