Smoke from burning of garbage by Ambassa Municipal Council is increasing air pollution at Dhalai district head quarter day by day.
The incident takes place frequently at Municipal Council area due to negligence of AMC authority. The air pollution reached in such condition yesterday that common people and businessman were suffering from suffocation. Immediately they informed the problem to Chairperson Chandan Bhowmik and CEO Subhabrata Dey.
On being informed CEO sent Fire Service to Dashami Ghat area. Arriving there Fire Service tried to extinguish the fire. However smoke spread to entire Ambassa as the fire was burning for longtime. Such incident is happening at Ambassa regularly within a gap of few days. Although, the municipal council authority has no initiative of getting any permanent solution.
Information revealed that Municipal Council authority used to dump the garbage of 13 wards at Dhalai river near Dhalai Bridge after constitution of AMC in between 2008- 09. Later local people strongly protested against the dumping of garbage for contamination of water in river. After few years a dumping station constructed at jungle of Shasadhar Para with an expense of about Rs. 50 lakh. After construction of dumping ground heaps of garbage deposited there by vehicles day by day. But the people of Shashadhar Para stopped the vehicles at the beginning of 2016. The local people did not allow the dumping vehicles there in spite of lot of request by Municipal Council. They demanded to change the dumping station due bad odor.
As a result the Municipal Council deprived of their plan to set up gas producing machine from permanent dumping ground. It could create employment of many labourers and produce fertilizer and bio-gas.
At last the authority decided to dump the garbage at Dashami Ghat area near Dhalai River. They use to set fire at the garbage after drying those and it creates air pollution at Ambassa subdivision area. Smoke prevails in the sky in spite of extinguishing fire by Fire Service.
As a result a layer of smoke covers the entire subdivision which creates problem of suffocation among people.
