'Not against English, but one who oppose Hindi as 'Rashtriya Bhasa' do not love country': CM

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb today clarified that he is not against English or neither he is trying to impose Hindi. He said, "But, those who oppose Hindi as 'Rashtriya Bhasa' (national language) do not love the country." He however said, "I am supporting Hindi as the national language as most of the people of our country speak Hindi."

He continued saying, "Had there been no British rule in India for 200 years, English would not have been accessible and known to the people of this country." He claimed of British's role in introducing English to this Nation.

"Due to loyalty to the colonial rule, English became a status symbol for many people," adding to this the Chief Minister today supported the Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s assertion on Saturday that Hindi as a language can unite the whole country.   

The Chief Minister was speaking in an inauguration programme of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Regional Cancer Centre here at Agartala. 

Meantime, the Chief Minister said, "For the first time in Tripura, NCERT syllabus is introduced. The BJP led coalition government has opened large number English medium schools as part of up gradation of the state's education sector."
