A heavy spell of squall along with ghastly wind—identified to be Nor’wester by the Met officials, lashed out at Dharmanagar leading many families to bear huge loss of private property. The massive storm also uprooted huge number of giant trees causing electricity breakdown in a couple of villages.
According to sources, a massive squall plunged onto the subdivision this afternoon. The velocity of the storm was so high that swayed away bamboo fencings, roofs and uprooted big trees throughout the subdivision. Electric facilities were turned down as soon as the storm hit the area in order to prevent any untoward incident.
As per the ground reports, only three villages—Ragna, West Chandrapur and Bhagyapur are affected the most. Downfall of huge trees snapped off electricity wires at various locations of these villages. Among the areas which got partly affected by the natural calamity includes—Churaibari, Fulbari, Laxminagar, Kherengjuri and Khadimpara.
However, in other areas electricity services were reinstated within this evening. “No positive steps have been taken yet from the part of civil administration in computing the extent of damage and losses people incurred due to the catastrophe”, said one Abdul Hasib of Laxminagar, Karimpara whose hut was collapsed owing to the sudden hit of the storm. Harendra Rudra Paul of the same village also echoed the same asked for government’s assistance to rebuild his house.
