A man identified as Nakul Saha succumbed to his injuries this morning at GBP hospital, who was on Sunday night, thrashed by his neighbours Sanjib Das and Ratan Das at Sekerkote, police said.
Speaking to this correspondent, SDPO Amtali said, prima facie, the victim was attacked in the fit of rage and that too in inebriated condition. The victim Nakul Saha was mercilessly beaten up by Sanjib and Ratan after they came out of the Manasha Puja Pandal set up at the residence of one Shibu Dey.
However, he added, the victim was rescued and taken to the GBP hospital but he breathed his last this morning. The post-mortem activities had been performed and the dead body was handed over to the family members for performing last rites, he told this website.
On the other hand, the accused persons—Sanjib Das and Ratan Das absconded from the locality just after the incident. Police are actively working to round up all the accused immediately, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer said.
While asked about the reason of the attack, he replied, the entire episode has occurred while each of them—both the accused and deceased, were in intoxicated conditions. Even the eyewitnesses could not help us in digging out the motive behind this attack. But, he assured that soon all the involved persons including two of the prime accused will be arrested. Notably, the incident took place in between 12:30 to 12:45 in the last night.
