Following the High Court order and also to facilitate the passengers and end unnecessary disputes between the passengers and Auto-rickshaw driver, the Tripura government has cleared the proposal of plying metered-auto rickshaw within the Agartala Municipal Corporation area. Briefing the cabinet decision of the Tripura government, the state law minister Ratan Lal Nath today, "Government has decided to lift road permit system for the auto-rickshaw within the AMC areas of the state and install meter in the three-wheelers."
The Minister said, with the introduction of this metered auto-rickshaw the passengers shall have liberty in hiring the entire vehicle to reach their destination point which may also include their doorstep.
The Minister also said that, "The basic fare for the metered auto-rickshaw shall be fixed at Rs. 20 per 1.5 kms. and Rs. 30 for next ride till 4.16 kms. and beyond that additional fare shall be charged from passengers on board at present system of Rs. 7.20 for further kms." He also informed that apart from this a total of 25 city bus shall be deployed within the AMC areas of this state which shall be available for the passengers from 6:30 am till 9:00 pm in a day.
Meantime, the Tripura government has also decided to groom the auto-rickshaw drivers with particular uniform. The law minister today informed that the drivers are also to be carried their unique identity cards along with them while they are on duty of boarding passengers. He said that the concerned department shall also provide safety of senior citizens, women and child passengers on board ensuring lock and key at the right door of the three-wheelers.
