Meeting with Shah: IPFT leaders happy

AGARTALA:

Leaders of Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura today expressed satisfaction over their meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah. Speaking to the media persons today after their arrival from Delhi, IPFT General Secretary, Mever Kumar Jamatia said, we are very satisfied with the assurances we get from the central home ministry.

Our main demand was, he said, to publish the reports of the high power modality committee which was formed to assess the factors pertaining to the socio-economic and linguistic development of the indigenous population of the state. Home Minister Amit Shah assured us of all the support and directed the Secretary of Home to take the needful steps in presence of us.

The other issues, we highlighted during the meeting was amendment of 6th schedule. Recently, the District councils were converted into territorial councils but nothing much changed in terms of powers and limitations. So we have urged Home Minister Shah to look into the matter and to ensure empowerment of territorial councils. Moreover, we have also highlighted the issue of including Kokborok language in the 8th schedule of the constitution.

“He (Amit Shah) had assured us with all the support from the central government and also convinced us that all our demands will be honoured” Mevar added.
