Malaria: Govt officials on high alert, scrutiny of media reports initiated

AGARTALA:

The Health and Family Welfare department seemed to have taken the media reports on Malaria deaths very seriously, as Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, who also holds the health portfolio has presided over slew of meetings with the higher officials of the department.

“Since last six days we are working on the media reports that claimed of Malaria deaths in several interior pockets of the state. But, till date not a single death has been found because of this deadly disease” said a highly placed source in the department.

He also said, as soon as, some of the media houses reported of Malaria deaths, field teams were given strict instructions to send reports regarding the issue. Newly appointed Health Secretary Dr. Debasish Basu himself asked for ground reports from the entire team working on prevention of vector borne diseases. After that, a couple of meeting was also held in the civil secretariat where Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb directed all the officials to take necessary actions in order to prevent any outbreak of Malaria or other such infectious diseases in the vulnerable areas.
