Today August 29 has been celebrated in every part of the country as the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, one of the greatest hockey players in the world and also the birthday of this legendary hockey player of the country is being celebrated every year as National Sports day. Just like the other parts of the country, Tripura also celebrated this day with several sporting events and paid tribute to Major Dhyan Chand on his birth anniversary.
At Ishanchandra Nagar H.S School field today Bharatchandra Nagar Block Level Sports tournament has been organized by Favourite Society and Play Centre. Additional Sports Director of South District Harendra Chandra Sarkar inaugurated the tournament with lightening the ceremonial lamp. After that Athletics, Volleyball and Football tournament held where several clubs and players of the association took part. Total 11 clubs took part in this block level event.
On the other hand with the initiative of Pritilata Play centre and in association with Tripura hockey association, Hockey tournament has been held at Madhuban Kathaltali School field. Total 5 teams took part in the tournament as in the end in the final Baishnab Tilla Play centre defeated Pritilata Play centre by 4-0. Kishan Debnath scored two goals while the other two goals have been scored by Ranjan Sarkar and Viky Koloi. At the end prize distribution ceremony held.
