The Joint Movement against Citizenship Amendment Bill (JMACAB) - a platform of regional political parties, Civil Society Organizations and Students’ Organizations today said that they are ready to take the call of Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb who urged them for a talk over Citizenship (Amendment) Bill - 2016.
"We recieved an information that Chief Minister wants to sit with the leaders of JMACAB. We are ready to hold a talk," adding to this the JMACAB member also the General Secretary of tribal based INPT regional party Jagadish Debbarma on Wednesday said, "We shall decided on the withdrawal of our indefinite 'bandh' only after the meeting with Chief Minister."
Jagadish Debbarma who lead the continuous protest against CAB on Wednesday at Baramura Khamting Bari said, "We shall continue their protest until the centre exempts Tripura along with other NE states from the CAB."
"Does our Tripura Chief Minister wants to make us more minorities when we are already?. The Chief Minister said TTAADC shall be exempted from CAB, but what after the 2021 census?," adding to this Mr. Debbarma said, "If the 2021 census figures out about 50 lakhs population in Tripura and with the introduction of this CAB and if the foreigners are provided with the ration cards and Indian Citizenships the 31 per cent of the tribal population shall come down to 21 per cent."
He said, "if the centre and our Tripura CM wants they can jointly work pout on exempting Tripura from the controversial bill like that of Mizoram, manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland."
The JMACAB has intensified their indefinite strike on Wednesday and threatened to continue their protest until the centre exempts Tripura Tripura from the CAB. The protest was underway at Baramura Khamtingbari, where over thousands of tribal agitators including the tribal women took part in the protest to demand the withdrawal of CAB.
