The Joint Movement against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (JMACAB) has decided to withdraw it’s indefinite strike from Wednesday night after meeting the Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb. The JMACAB responding to the call of CM has met him in presence of Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Verma here at the secretariat on Wednesday evening and has withdrawn their ‘bandh’ which has hit the normal life in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) since Monday.
This withdrawal of indefinite ‘bandh’ has come up after the CM has assured them of apprising the Union Home Minister Amit Shah of their demand of exempting Tripura from CAB which is passed in both the houses of the Parliament.
The Chief Minister said that the meeting was fruitful. “I have listened to the Joint Movement committee represented by the convenor Antony Debbarma and former MLA Bijoy Hrangkhawal and urged them to withdraw their strike against Cab as Tripura government has nothing to do with any kind of intervention on the bill,” adding to this Mr. Deb said, “I assured them of apprising their demand with Amit Shah ji and they agreed to it.”
He said, “Despite the JMACAB has decided to withdraw their strike, but some are still spreading rumour against this CAB in the name of ‘bandh’. I urge upon all walks of life in the state not to put ear on such rumour as government is monitoring every situation strict enough to take legal action against it.”
Meantime, the JMACAB convenor Antony Debbarma talking to the media after the meet said, “The ‘bandh’ was not against Tripura government rather we demanded the centre to exempt Tripura like other North East states from this bill which shall put an adverse impact on the state at large.” He said, “We have already passed the message to every corners of the TTAADC to withdraw the ‘bandh’.”
However, despite the fact that the situation in Tripura likely to be normalised but others states in North East is still boiling hard enough to oppose the bill which is passed in the upper house of the parliament on Wednesday night amid oppositions’ debate.
