The state deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma on Wednesday said, "Tripura has received an amount of Rs. 27.45 crore from the Ministry of DoNER to develop the state's capital into a science city."
He said, "This is a very challenging task perhaps but is one of the iconic projects." Jishnu was speaking in India International Science Festival (IISF) 2019 at Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in Kolkata which aimed instill scientific temper among people, showcase India's contribution in the field of science and technology.
He said, "Of the total sanctioned amount of Rs. 100 crore, The DoNER has floored Rs. 27.45 crore and the rest Tripura government is eyeing for it from the CSR of different companies."
However, while addressing the gathering of science experts and other stakeholders in the programme on Wednesday, Jishnu urged upon the Government of India to focus on the North East region of the country and connect the region with the main stream in terms of research and development in different aspects.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially inaugurated the IISF 2019 at Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in Kolkata and appreciated the theme for this year's festival, - 'RISEN India - Research, Innovation, and Science Empowering the Nation'.
The prime objective of the festival is to instill scientific temper among people, showcase India's contribution in the field of S&T and encourage translation of its benefits to people. It aims to build a strategy for inclusive advancement of Science and Technology.
