Altogether 6 workers (mostly electrician) associated with power station run by Military Engineering Service here in Agartala are facing serious problems with their salaries. The workers alleged they are being tricked by the contractor who runs the power station.
Speaking to this correspondent, one of the workers said, the contractor, every month charges huge amount of money in the name of salary of his workers but the workers get half of the amount what the contractor actually charges. It has become a yearly phenomenon. The contractor maintains three ledger books of salary. Every month the workers were allowed to sign one of the books and two of the other books where the actual salary amount was recorded were kept locked by the managerial staff, the worker alleged.
He also informed this website that in other such power stations located at Dimapur of Assam and other such the electrician were paid much more than that of they get here. “A tripartite meeting was held recently where the issues were discussed but none of the higher authorities—the military officials and the contractors, responded to our queries whereas people working in the same scale at another power stations get much more than that we get” he told this correspondent.
