HC cancels APP appointments in Gomati district

AGARTALA:

In a significant order, the High Court of Tripura today cancelled the appointments of Assistant Public Prosecutors in Gomati District Court, said counsel Samarjit Bhattacharjee.

A total of 05 Assistant Public Prosecutors would be axed following the order that termed the appointments arbitrary.

A Division Bench Comprising Chief Justice AA Kureshi and Justice Arindam Lodh, who heard the petition from aggrieved aspirants- Bapi Dey and Joyesh Dey over past few months, delivered the judgement with a directive to state government to appoint the petitioners within two months.

The plaintiffs complained, appointments to the post of Assistant Public Prosecutors were given flouting set rules of High Court. State government had appointed the Assistant Public Prosecutors in March 2018.

Senior counsel P Roy Barman accompanied by Samarjit Bhattacharjee and Kawshik Nath represented the petitioners who were deprived of job despite having requisite merit.

When contacted, Advocate General AK Bhowmik said, state government will move the Supreme Court seeking a stay on the High Court order.
