In view of the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT)’s oppose to the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, the Gana Mukti Parishad (GMP) in Tripura today sought clarification from the BJP lead coalition government over implementation of this new Indian law.
IPFT is an alliance partner of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tripura. “Government should clarify it’s stand on implementation of this CA Act as it’s alliance partner have been opposing the Act from the beginning,” said GMP leader also the ADC’s Chief Executive Member Radhacharan Debbarma.
Addressing a press conference here at the CPI-M party headquarter on Sunday Mr. Debbarma said, “The states like Kerala, Punjab, West Bengal and others have already announced non-implementation of the Act. Now we want clarification from our government.” Terming the new Indian law – Citizenship (Amendment) Act as ‘anti-people’ policy of the BJP government at the centre, Mr. Debbarma today announced to move to the Supreme Court of India against the Act which according to them poses a threat to the people of North East as a whole.
“This Act is not only a problem for the indigenous tribe in Tripura but also a problem of the entire Northeast region of the country,” said GMP leader Mr. Debbarma. He said, “The Bill completely betrays the spirit of the secular Indian Constitution.”
Meantime, the GMP President also the former MP Jitendra Chowdhury addressing the media on Sunday said, “The CA Act poses a threat to stability and peace in the North-Eastern states. The minorities in Bangladesh – Hindu and Buddhists – might be targeted by the fundamentalists.”
He said, “Hindi-Buddha-Christian Maitri Songshad representing minority Welfare in Bangladesh has recently opposed this bill and felt that this shall put an adverse impact on the minorities in Bangladesh and also shall pose a threat to the livelihood of the minorities in Bangladesh.”
