Former minister taken to police custody for interrogation on Rs. 600 crore PWD scandal

The PWD scam accused former minister Badal Chowdhury is taken into 4 days police custody on Tuesday evening. The Investigating officer of this scam has brought Badal Chowdhury in Agartala NCC Police Station adjacent to the state secretariat from Bishalgarh Kendriya Sangsodhanghar after making all necessary arrangements as per the direction of the court in SDPO's chamber in the police station.

Police said the interrogation of Badal Chowdhury has already been started inside the SDPO's chamber having medical and other facilities as was necessitated by the court.

However, defence lawyer Arindam Bhattacharjee who paid a visit to Badal Chowdhury and take a note of the situation of arrangements made inside the SDPO's chamber said, "The IO of the case has reported the court regarding their arrangements made here and accordingly Badal Chowdhury is brought in the NCC police station."

Meantime, defence lawyer Arindam Bhattacharjee expressed some dissatisfaction over the providence of single occupancy bed for Badal Chowdhury inside the SDPO's chamber in the police station and said, "Badal Chowdhury has a complaint of discomfort." The lawyer however on being asked said, "After a night-long stay in the police station, it can be learnt that how police has abide the direction of the court in regard of making medical facilities for Badal Chowdhury."

The session court earlier on November 11 last ruled out police lock-up for Badal Chowdhury on condition of the medical ground and directed the police to make arrangements of the separate room having some specific facilities as per the gravity of the scam accused.
