Despite approval from centre in 2012, no IIIT built in Tripura: Education Minister

AGARTALA:

The state education minister Ratan Lal Nath today concerned over the failure of previous government in building Indian Institute of Information and Technology (IIIT) college in Tripura and said, "Despite the centre has cleared the approval in 2012, the then government has not taken any initiative if building this IIIT college in the state." He said, after formation of BJP-IPFT coalition government, the key focus has always been in upgrading the education sector and as part of government has decided to built IIIT College and facilitate the students of this state.

In view of government's decision of making education hub in Tripura, a meeting is held here at Agartala Secretariat education department office. The meeting is chaired by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and state education minister Ratan Lal Nath.

"At present 14 students are persuing higher studies in temporary building of IIIT in NIT College at Jirania," adding to this minister Ratan Lal Nath said, "Three places have been identified for constructing this IIIT college."

Meantime, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb chairing this high level meeting today said, "Apart from upgradation of higher studies in education sector, the Tripura government is also focusing on rendering quality education to the students of this state."
