Despite the deployment of TSR personnel, the Cow shelter home (Goushala) run by Dhyan Foundation, located at Debipur under Madhupur police station, is struggling to put a check on the constant incidents of thefts.
The “Goushala”, which acts as a shelter home for the cattle rescued from trans-border smuggling, earlier hogged to the limelight for random deaths of animals. However, the Dhyan foundation members, somehow, succeeded to get hold of the deaths but theft has come forward as a big problem nowadays.
Speaking to this website, one of the volunteers of Dhayan Foundation, who came all the way from Delhi, said, death of cows, is a problem here in the farm. But, the biggest problem we are facing here is the threat of thefts.
“Earlier the local guards and caretakers use to guard the farm but when we observed that the numbers of incidents related to thefts are increasing with every passing day, we approached the local administration and TSR Jawans are deployed here. But, they also failed to put a check on the matter. Every day five to six TSR Jawans, in rotation, keep watch around the cow shelter home. But, the racket of cow thieves somehow manage to conduct thefts” said Shivan, who is also a journalist and a volunteer of the foundation.
While asked about the deaths, he said, most of the rescued cows brought here are in very bad condition. A good number of the rescued cows found infected with FMD (Foot and Mouth Disease), in some cases the stomach of the cows found filled with plastics and many cows die immediately after consuming food as these were kept in starvation for long.
However, CCTV footage circulated by the foundation showed that thieves enter the shelter home cutting the fences. The foundation has also sought CBI inquiry against the cow smuggling racket.
