A CPIM party office, located at city’s Dhaleshwar jail road was set on fire late in the Tuesday night by unknown miscreants, said police today.
Speaking to this reporter, Officer In-charge of East Agartala police station Manik Debnath said, the police come to know about the incident after the newly introduced beat patrolling unit informed the police station at around 1 pm last night. Soon the fire service department and the police team reached the spot. One fire tender has been engaged to douse the fire, he added.
When asked about the reason of the sudden fire, he said, till now the police failed to ascertain whether the fire has been set off by someone or caused by any electrical mishap. An FIR has been lodged by the CPIM party in the East Agartala Police station, he told this website.
Meanwhile, a delegation of heavyweight CPIM leaders, including Manik Sarkar, former Minister Ratan Bhowmik and CPIM contestant from the constituency and former president of party’s youth wing Amal Chakraborty visited the spot. The party sources, however, claimed that the BJP sheltered miscreants had conducted the attack.
When asked for a reaction, the former Chief Minister in an oblique reference to his earlier statements regarding the violent attacks being meted out to the opposition party workers, said, “Finally at chief Minister’s own constituency”.
