CPIM MLAs donate 25 percent of salaries for three months

AGARTALA:

In order to combat the COVID-19 (Novel Corona virus) pandemic, the opposition CPI(M) MLAs have decided to donate 25 % of their monthly honorarium for next three months to Chief Minister’s relief fund.

Chief whip Tapan Chakraborty accompanied by MLAs Ratan Bhowmik and Sahid Chowdhury on Friday handed over a cheque of the first installment.

During the meeting with chief secretary, opposition MLAs requested the state government to closely monitor the distribution of free PDS items including rice and pulses.

They informed the chief secretary that many poor people, especially from rural areas of the state were forced to mortgage their ration cards to money lenders.

As a result, the genuine poor of the state remained deprived of the free ration system of the government.
