The growing proximity between the opposition CPIM and Congress has once again came to the forefront as both the parties has joined hands to form a Panchayat board at Kailasahar today. The move, ahead of the ADC elections, has, of late, triggered huge speculation over the future of state politics.
The Sreenathpur Panchayat under Kailasahar’s Gournagar block witnessed a tripartite contest between the Congress, CPIM and ruling BJP in the just concluded Panchayat elections where none of the major parties could cross the magic figure. Coming together the Congress and the CPIM, at last, proved majority of 7 members in 13-member committee before the presiding officer and retained the Panchayat whereas the ruling BJP ended with 6 elected members.
Local sources said, as soon as the results of Panchayat elections were declared both CPIM and BJP who had bagged 5 and 6 seats respectively tried wholeheartedly to capture the Panchayat. For, CPIM, this Panchayat was like a hope of betterment and for BJP it was a prestige issue. The Congress leaders remained silent but finally they extended their support to the Left.
The local CPIM leaders alleged, the BJP party did everything it could from back channel offers to cunning tricks to retrain the opposition from forming the board. “First of all they tried to bribe us. But when we did not respond to their lucrative offers we were being subjected to administrative pressure. CPIM elected member Majur Ali was even falsely implicated in a NDPS case so that he could not attend the oath taking ceremony. But the court granted him bail” alleged the CPIM leaders.
On the other hand reacting to the allegations, local BJP leaders said, the law will take its own course. We never tried to implicate anyone of the opposition in false cases. We accepted our defeat and respect the verdict of people.
However, the oath taking ceremony was organized today in presence of presiding officer and huge deployment of police. SDPO Kailasahar while speaking to this correspondent said, we have apprehensions that something disturbing may take place in the oath taking ceremony. Sensing trouble huge security arrangements were put on place to thwart any untoward incident, the SDPO added.
