A local court here today rejected the bail plea of fugitive guest lecturer of Tripura University- Moti Kapoor in connection with the attack on the office of leading English daily ‘Tripura Times’ and the residence of incumbent High Court judge Justice Arindam Lodh.
Moti, prime accused in the attack on the office of leading English daily on August 14 night, was arrested by West Agartala Police from Amarpur yesterday. He was produced before a local court here by West Agartala Police seeking Police Custody for further questioning.
However, the court reserved its order on the plea of cops for August 26 next. His accomplice- Samar Chakraborty, a goonda element, was arrested by cops a day before Moti’s arrest. Both Moti and Samar were in the habit of flaunting their multiple identities as RSS workers and BJP men all of which were false. They were allegedly also involved in lot of mischievous activities in the University.
The duo had attacked the office of Tripura Times after the newspaper had published pictures of Moti showing him in dance mood, teaching karate skill to students in a class. Two staffers of Tripura Times sustained minor injuries in the attack. Police launched a massive manhunt to nab Kapoor after filing of the FIR by the Tripura Times staff, keeping a tab on their movements and finally a Police team led by Officer-in-Charge of West Agartala Police Station Debaprasad Roy nabbed Moti on the basis of a tip-off.
Tripura LS Poll: 80.40% voting turnout recorded till 5 PM
