Session Judge of Udaipur Court A.K. Nath ordered life imprisonment against accused Pranab Ranjan Roy Karmakar and fined Rs. 10,000 according to section 302 of IPC in allegation of murder of his wife on dowry demand.
Sources said that resident of Chanban Pranab Ranjan Roy Karmakar (32) married Sarmistha Karmakar, daughter of Pranab Karmakar of Khilpara in 2014. It was a social marriage. But Pranab Ranjan started torture on Sarmistha on demand of bringing Rs. 50,000 from her father after few days of marriage. Often he assaulted Sarmistha physically on dowry demand whereas poor father of Sarmistha failed to fulfill his demand. Pranab Ranjan also assaulted Sarmistha’s father at their house on demand of dowry and threatened that her father would not be able to see his daughter any more. Pranab Ranjan killed Sarmistha by pressing pillow on his mouth on 17/7/14.
Sarmistha’s mother Chandana Karmakar filed a complaint against the accused at Udaipur Women Police Station in allegation of murder of her daughter. After completion of investigation police filed a charge sheet in the court.
After long hearing according to witness of 17 persons Session Judge A.K. Nath convicted the accused person and ordered for Life term imprisonment. The court also ordered 3 years more jail and fined Rs. 5000 under section 488 (A) of IPC and 7 years jail under Section 304 of IPC against the accused person.
