Everyone is not fortunate enough to taste the food cooked in the Chief Minister’s own kitchen. Be it simple rice with dal or Chapati with sabji when it comes directly from the kitchen that used to prepare food for the head of the state every day, means something more than a simple meal for anyone.
But, owing to the 21-day nationwide lockdown, an opportunity comes for people engaged in various levels of emergency services to taste the food prepared in Chief Minister’s own kitchen sometimes being unknown of the fact as to where it has been prepared.
Thanks to Niti Deb wife of Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, who is relentlessly trying her best to feed people engaged in emergency services. Deb who is also a key member of the NGO “Purvaudaya” is also encouraging many others to join her in this noble mission.
The NGO members primarily target the people who are associated with emergency services—hospital attendants, guards and odd-jobs related to the subject and prepare food for them. Each pack of the food contains mostly Roti, sometimes rice with sabji and prepared in a manner that one person can be fed enough.
Speaking on the issue Deb pointed out that minor steps of extending help to the needy people or who were busy serving others might come as most vital in this crisis situation. “When the entire nation is combating a deadly situation, small steps of help may usher in a big change. When the nationwide lockdown has been announced, first of all, my attention has been attracted to the people who stay in front of Laxmi Narayan bari temple and those who are engaged in duty for keeping us safe. The hospitals' attendants, guards and other such people who are doing several odd jobs in the health department can’t afford a single day-off nowadays. I have personally observed that people fail to take their meals in time. Now, we as Purvaudaya members have taken the initiative to provide food to those who have no time to eat”, Deb said.
Urging others to join her move, she said, “Now everyone has enough time in the home. Nobody takes rest every time. People should come forward and join hands with us in feeding the needy people”.
Deb also said that they were taking all the measures to ensure the safety of the food. “Since we are preparing food in our kitchen there is no compromise with safety and hygiene. The food is being served to take all the precautionary measures in the account and there is nothing to worry about. Safety, Security, and Hygiene are being given the highest priority”, Deb added.
However, Deb is not the only one. Women members of the NGO such as Sananda Saha, Dr. Bulti Das, Dr. Sipa Das and many more have come forward and now cooking food for the people engaged in emergency services. The male members of the NGO have also shown the same spirit and contributing as per their limits. Dry food items such as biscuits and breads are being served by the male members, said one of the NGO members.
Several other NGOs such as Manabikata have also spearheading such messages across the state.
