The Tripura Police is all set to launch the single emergency helpline number '112' for immediate assistance on Tuesday. Now, instead of '100, 101 and 102', the residents of the state can just use '112'. The Emergency Response Support System (ERSS-112) will be launched by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb who also holds the Home portfolio.
With the implementation of the new ERSS-112 system, the police response time will reduce tremendously.
In this new system, the call simultaneously passes to the Police Control Room as well as to at-least five persons through the mobile app; which are volunteers to help the people in need. "Even if somebody dials 100 or 101 or 102, the call will connect to 112," a senior police officer said.
The main call centre has been set up in the IT Bhavan, Indranagar located in Agartala. According to police, the citizens of state can avail the facility of three emergency services (police, fire services and ambulance) by dialling a single number.
Police further said that in case of emergency, one can dial 112 from phone or pressing power button thrice on ones smart phone to quickly to activate a panic call to the Emergency Response Centre (ERC).
This call immediately passes to the control room which then provides the immediate police assistance to the distress caller. The distress calls can also be made through social media, e-mail, SMS.
A highly placed source in the police department underlined that the ERSS 112 is a flagship project under the Ministry of Home Affairs and the project has been undertaken as a pilot project in the state.
“We are connecting all our resources to the system so that it could be started in a full-fledged manner in the state. About 26 states of the country have already started this system fully or partially” said the source.
Apart from the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary U Venkateshwarlu, DGP AK Shukla along with higher officers of the police department, senior officials of health and fire-service department will also remain present in the programme.
