A carbine has been spotted by the locals at the river banks of Gomati in Sonamura today.
According to the eyewitnesses, Biswajit Debnath and Goutam Singh went to river to collect floating firewood and found the fire arm for the first time. It was found under a squash.
Soon after the incident, the local police and nearby BSF jawans were informed.
Notably, couple of decades ago a BSF Jawan laden with a similar carbine was drowned by the river as his boat capsized failing to bore the water flow. There is every possibility that it is the same carbine, added the local sources.
Meanwhile, the police has started an investigation and yet tightlipped to disclose anything regarding the matter.
