Universities across the country are witnessing a hard time when continuous protests against CAA being staged by students had paralyzed the academic system. Tripura University also got derailed from it’s usual course with classes being called off since January 21st last but all for the other reasons.
Reportedly, the non-teaching staffs recruited through contracts were not being entitled to the deserved wages. Despite, the University's Finance Committee and the Executive Council had already given it’s nod to the increased pay structures, the authorities were showing no attempts to release the salaries.
Irate staffs heckled the higher authorities. The agitated officials also locked up some of the higher officials late on Tuesday night triggering tension. The classes had been called off from yesterday as none of the staffs shown interest work until their demands are met.
Allegations had been rife against the acting Vice-Chancellor. Speaking to us, one of the staffs said, “The UGC have written the university to form resolutions to pay increased salaries to the contractual employees. The executive council and the recently concluded Finance Committee have also given it’s nod to the increased salaries. But, the Vice-Chancellor is not showing any attempts to take a final call on the issue”.
Some of the officials also claimed that the register was also involved in this delay of the salary hike.
