Badal sent for JC till Nov 27, interrogation to be continued

AGARTALA:

The special Court of S Datta Purakaystha has on today sent graft accused former PWD Minister Badal Chowdhury for jail custody till November 27 next. The next date of hearing of the matter has been fixed on that day. The Court has also awarded the Investigation officer some special reliefs to continue interrogation in the jail.

Speaking to the media after hearing, Special public prosecutor of the case Ratan Datta said, “The Court has pronounced jail custody for Chowdhury till November 27 next. In this tenure of his jail custody, the investigation officer of the case can interrogate him in the jail premises, if he wants”.

In its ruling, the Court has also asked the jail authorities to arrange a special room for interrogation. “Following the earlier orders of the Court, the Jail authorities have been also asked to make arrangements of a special room so that the process of interrogation could not be interrupted,” Datta told media.

However, the prosecution counsel has also accused Chowdhury of not co-operating in the process of interrogation. Replying to a question, Datta said, “As far as the interrogation is concerned, Chowdhury is not co-operating with the investigating officers”.

Chowdhury was produced before the Court today after his tenure of four-day police remand ended. The findings of the interrogation had been also submitted before the Court in a “sealed envelope”.

“The outcome of the four-day police remand has been submitted in the Court in a sealed envelope. Nothing can be disclosed regarding the interrogation as the matter is sub-judice” Datta told media.

On the progress of police in catching YP Singh, Datta said, the High Court of Tripura has already denied granting bail to both YP Singh and Sunil Bhowmik today. Though police is yet to catch Singh, he will be under police dragnet very soon, he hoped.
