The session court on Wednesday rejected the bail petition of the former minister Badal Chowdhury over the alleged economic scandal of PWD department of the then Left front government. The court reserved the order on Tuesday while hearing the argument of both the public prosecutor and the defence lawyer over the bail petition of Mr. Chowdhury.
"Our arguments seeking bail petition for Badal Chowdhury were not justified resulting the court reject his bail," adding to this defence lawyer Bhaskar Debbarma felt that, "The court could have accept the bail petition in view of the failure of the police in filing the charge sheet."
Meantime, the special public prosecutor Ratan Dutta said, "As per the CRPC Section 167, accused Badal Chowdhury can remain in jail custody till the completion of 90 days." He said, "We have enough evidence against Badal Chowdhury in the scandal. But being politically very influential person Badal Chowdhury can temper documents and other related evidences, it is necessary for him to remain in jail custody till the completion of his 90 days tenure of the jail custody."
The defence lawyer Arindam Bhattacharjee earlier on Tuesday last sought bail for Mr. Chowdhury arguing that police have failed to file charge sheet so far with the passage of 75 days of Mr. Chowdhury in jail custody.
