The anticipatory bail petition of former PWD minister Badal Chowdhury moved in the special bench of Justice Arindam Lodh of the High Court of Tripura lost its validity or in other words stood infructuous as he was arrested after being admitted in a city-based hospital.
According to the sources in the defense counsel of the former PWD Minister, Justice Lodh concluded the hearing and reserved verdict but as he was arrested last night, the anticipatory bail application stands of no merit. Now a fresh petition has been moved in the Court for his bail.
“The matter has been listed. Justice Lodh will begin the hearing of the petition on October 24 next. We are hopeful that the court will grant bail to him” one of the lawyers said.
However, Chowdhury, who is, reportedly, involved in misappropriation of government funds tuned to Rs 600 crore during his tenure as a PWD minister, is under the observation of doctors. According to his family members, he got admitted to the hospital for fall of sugar level. A huge contingent of police have been put on place in and around the hospital. Top to bottom level police personnel of almost all the police branches were deployed to thwart any route of escape for Chowdhury. However, he will remain in the hospital until he recovers from his illness, police sources informed the media.
