Aitorma Pravabati Football Tournament gets underway

AGARTALA:

The second edition of Aitorma Pravabati Inter-School Football Championship got underway at city’s Vivekananda Stadium today. Nine Schools from different parts of the State are participating in the Under-18 tournament organized by Aitorma Magazine.

While inaugurating the tournament Subrata Debbarma, the President of Tripura Football Association congratulated the organizers and teams. He said if we begin coaching from a very young age we also can produce national players like Manipur, Assam and Meghalaya have done.

In the opening match between Holy Cross School Agartala and Holy Cross School Tuikarmaw, Prabesh Reang scored the first goal 20 minutes into the game. Just before the half time, B.L.Malsawma of Holy Cross Agartala scored the equalizer.

Having finished 1-1, the game went into penalty shootout and Holy Cross Tuikarmaw emerged victorious 7-6.

The second match between St. Xavier’s school Pathaliaghat and Synod School Lefunga, ended in favour of St.Xavier’s with the score 9-0. Among those who scored for St. Xaviers’s, Animesh Debbarma and Nanda Jamatia scored two goals each.

The third game of the day was a hard fought battle between Don Bosco School Agartala and Katlamara High School. The goalless game went into Penalty shootout and Don Bosco emerged victorious 4-2.

The tournament started from last year in memory of Pravabati Tripura and organized by Aitorma has a prize money of rupees 30 thousand and a rolling trophy.
