Agartala gets direct flight to Delhi for first time

AGARTALA:

Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Wednesday afternoon flagged off Agartala–Delhi direct flights, which are being operated by Indigo Airlines. The CM along with two MPs from the state- Pratima Bhowmik and Rebati Tripura– and MLA Dilip Das and other dignitaries were present at the Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport during the flagging off ceremony.

Budget airline IndiGo on Wednesday launched daily direct flights on the Agartala-New Delhi-Agartala route, facilitating passengers from the northeastern state to go to Delhi without any stopover in Kolkata and Guwahati.

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb while addressing the gathering in the airport today said that he was sure of hefty number of passengers from Agartala to Delhi, following which he invited the Indigo to run their aircraft. IndiGo has recently also launched flights connecting Silchar, Dibrugarh and Shillong.

The CM addressing a gathering at the airport informed that even though he has invited several investors to the state, but owing to the lack of direct flights from Delhi to Tripura, investors expressed their unwillingness to visit the state. He said now the investors can make use of this facility and invest for development of the state.

Flagging off the flight, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said in five years Rs 8,000 crore would be invested in infrastructure projects in Tripura. The Chief Minister continued saying that his government is working to grow the state's GDP.
