Acting on secret information on smuggling gas from cylinders SP of North District Bhanupada Chakraborty arrested five labours and driver of cylinder carrier truck after raiding at three trucks at Panisagar in last night.
Sources said that a large contingent of police led by SP Chakraborty and SDPO of Panisagar conducted a raid at two areas under Panisagar Police Station including Noagaon and Ramnagar in darkness of night.
During raid police arrested five labourers and one driver from three gas carrier vehicles. Besides, two drivers absconded during the raid. The three trucks from Silchar were going towards Agartala and Amarpur. The arrested labours are Debesh Das (24), Dwipu Das (24), Paritosh Das (22), Bhabatosh Das (24). All of them are dweller of Pekucherra. Another labourer Nayan Das (25) is dweller of Silchar. Besides police detained three gas carrying lorries and arrested one driver Pranjit Das.
Police found 20 vacant cylinders in each lorry which brought for filling while 20 gas filled cylinders were sold. Besides, police recovered 4 machines and large number of corks to seal cylinders. The machines help to pass gas from one cylinder to another very easily. SP said that police filed a special case against the offenders under non bail able section.
