Two day long 2nd State Chessboxing tournament will start from September 9 at Udaipur Girls School Auditorium. At 4.00 pm the tournament will be inaugurated by Tourism minister Ratan Bhowmik while the prize distribution ceremony will be held on September 10 at 3.00 pm where MLA Pranjit Sinha Roy will remain present as chief guest. This news has been announced today by Tripura Chessboxing association Secretary Amit Podder in a press meet held at Red Cross society conference hall.
Around 120 players from 7 districts of the state will take part in the tournament which will be held in 30 categories. Though this association yet not got the felicitation from Tripura Sports Council but already Tripura Olympic association announced the Chessboxing association as one of their member. For this gesture State Chessboxing association extended their warm congratulation to Tripura Olympic association President cum Member of Parliament Jiten Choudhury and Secretary of the association Sujit Roy.
Though this game was born at Germany but slowly the popularity has been spread several states of India. In 2013 this game came to Tripura and currently apart from Dhalai district, all the districts are very much active in this game. The popularity is growing so fast here that in the recently concluded 1st Amateur World Chessboxing event at Kolkata, Tripura won 6 medals including 3 gold medals. President Narayan Banik said that in between financial crisis they are trying their best to spread the game to each part of the state and for this he seek necessary help from all corners.
