In a bid to shield the Tea Industry, the lone cash crop trade which somehow barred itself from getting fastened unlike many others sustaining geographical and infrastructural drawbacks, the governing agencies has started taking serious measures in the state.
In such an attempt today, Tocklai Tea Research Institute along with Department of science and Technology Tripura and two subordinates Tripura Advisory Center and Cachar Advisory Center of Tocklai, organized a day-long workshop on “Integrated Pesticide Resistance management” with special emphasis on ‘Red Spider Mite’, which led a massive damage of 17-46% every year of the total production.
Meanwhile, Science and Technology Minister Sudip Roy Barman, who inaugurated the workshop today pointed out the potential of tea industry and hoped for a success of the maneuver. During his address he pointed out that being the 5th largest state in the list of tea growers the state is still lagging behind to confine its quality to a certain enterprise, whereas the state has the potential in both the agro chemical and climatic circumstances to do well inclusively in this field. He also praised the initiative and urged the participants to rely upon the techniques of organic management as the Organic tea has a huge demand in the world of consumers.
However, TTDC Chairman Santosh Saha proposed for a string of co-ordination among the tea board, tea cell, TTDC, Tea Board of India and the owners of the estates which could ensure a collective work order to follow. “A well-lit reason owing to what the tea Industry is confronted serious losses is that we are still unable to train the plucking hand to collect the quality tea leaves. If once this problem could be sorted out, the rest of the procedure will surely get an augment”, he informed.
Notably, the technical session of the workshop pressed to exercise, how to prevent the Tea Industry from the grasp of Red Spider Mite and Termites in a biological order by restraining the both the pest species from reproduction. Among the others Director of TRA AK Barua, Science and Technology and other departments expressed their thoughts today.
