Vijay Hazare Trophy One-Day Cricket: Abhijit’s 7 for went in vain as Bengal thrash Tripura

An outstanding spell from Abhijit Chakraborty today went in vain as continuous failure from the batsmen led Tripura to their fourth defeat on the trot in the ongoing Vijay Hazare trophy One-Day cricket tournament. 

At Atal Bihari Vajpayee Cricket Stadium in Amtar today Bengal thrashed Tripura by a huge margin of 109 runs. Batting first today Bengal bundled out for 249 runs while in reply Tripura bundled out for a mere 140 runs.

Due to bad outfield the match has been reduced to 33 over per side where Abhijit Chakraborty bowled superbly and picked up 7 wickets. In reply the batsmen failed to continue the good form as apart from Joydip Banik all the others failed.

In the morning today Tripura Captain won the toss and elected to field first. After losing Shreevats Goswami (0) earlyAbhishek Kumar Raman and V Singh slammed the Tripura bowlers at all over the park and added 163 runs for the second wicket.

V Singh made 84 from 71 balls with 9 fours and 1 six while Abhishek Kumar Raman made 76 from 52 balls with 11 fours and 2 sixes. Anustup Majumder made 32 while Manoj Tiwary made 22. Bengal bundled out for 249 runs from 33 overs.

Among the Tripura bowlers Abhijit Chakraborty picked up 7 wickets and rattled the middle order. In reply Tripura lost wickets at regular intervals from the beginning which led them to the downfall in the 29 overs as Tripura made only 140.

Among the batsmen Jaydip Banik made 51 from 72 balls with 3 fours and 1 six, Captain Manisankar Murasingh made 23 while Saurabh Das and Yashpal Singh made 15 runs each. Among the bowlers Alok Pratap Singh picked up 4 wickets.
