Varied response in support of bandh at subdivisions

KAILASHAHAR /SONAMURA /TELIAMURA /CHURAIBARI:

Our correspondent from Teliamura added that 12 hours country wide strike called by Congress in protest of price hike of petro- product got mixed response at the subdivision. Monday is haat day of Teliamura. Although the shops remained open on the occasion the shopkeepers became frustrated due to lack of buyers. The attendance at offices was negligible today while most of the offices were open. Surprisingly no Congress supporters or workers went for picketing.

Our correspondent from Kailashahar added that 12 hours bandh called by Congress  supported by other parties passed peacefully except some sporadic incidents. Although Congress and CPI-M went for picketing BJP did not attempted to prevent them. The administration also made huge security arrangement to avoid untoward incident. Sources said that no vehicle moved from Kailashahar since morning today.

Some picketers set fire on tire on Dharmanagar Road. However Fire service extinguished the fire. Although offices were open the attendance was negligible. About 100 Congress workers were arrested at the time of picketing at premises of court. Meanwhile CPM workers moved in the town by bike and participated in picketing.

Our correspondent from Churaibari added that 21 Congress picketers arrested from Kadamtala today. Most of the shops remained closed and CDPO employees entered office with help of police. Although few vehicles entered through Churaibari gate Assam Agartala Road was vacant. Schools remained open within guard of police. Besides, Police TSR continued patrolling on the road. Most of the people moved on foot as vehicles remained stranded at stands. It seemed that people had silent support behind the bandh as they could not accept the hike in price of petrol and diesel.

However Left supporters were not went for picketing.

Our correspondent added from Sonamura that Bandh passed peacefully except some sporadic incidents. Altogether 92 supporters of Congress arrested from different areas at the time of picketing.
