A solar power plant of 500 KWP started functioning in Tripura University campus today. This project was assigned to Tripura University under mega project undertaken by Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) which functions under MNRE. Tripura University with this happens to be the first university to install solar power project in NE region in the assigned period.
Developing solar energy cluster is major project initiated by Hon’ble Prime Minister PM Narendra Modi and all the central universities. IITs and NITs will also be the beneficiaries of this initiative.
TSECL will assist the university by mapping the energy through net meters. Dr. M S Kele CMD of TSECL has assured the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof V L Dharurkar to help the University for setting the ne metering system.
“These panels have a capacity of generating 7 lakhs units per annum, which will save TU and amount worth Rs. 36 lakh annually approximately’ and Tripura University will become a green campus by producing its own clean and green energy said”, Prof. V L Dharurkar.
In the present consumption ratios university will at least save 60% of its monthly energy consumption. Further, Prof Dharurkar and energy expert also visited three places where old panels are existing; university will undertake a repair project soon which will generate additionally 1.40 units which will further save 10 lacs approximately. Sri. K K Singh and his team had undertaken this work in the month on Nov 2018 and completed this project in the stipulated time of 2 months. These new panels are located in nine different buildings of the Tripura University which includes Academic Building 1, 2, 7, 8, 10, 11, Old Canteen, Old Guest House and Examination Halls.
The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor also shared, “ the whole energy project i8s under PPA that is Power Purchase Agreement model and the varsity has not spent a single penny in this project”.
Prof Dharurkar VC and Sri. R K Singh, MD of M/s. Wattplus Energy have inspected the rooftop plant installed on the university buildings. At this time Er. Nakshatra Tripura JE, Mr. Subrata Nandi, Security inspector and University’s outsourced staff Shri Tapas Sarkar and Shri Raju Chaudhury were also present at this occasion.
This PPA was signed on September 20, 2018 after arrival of new VC on July 16, 2018. The VC has also thanked M/s Wattplus Energy for taking this initiative in establishing the solar system in TU campus. In near future the university is also thinking to extend this project on further heights.
Registrar Sri Sanit Debroy and administrative staff also assisted by taking keen interest in the project.
Prof Dharurkar congratulated MD of Wattplus Energy and colleagues for undertaking the project in planned and timely manner. MD Sri KK Singh assured to help the university by renovating the old energy plant without taking any service charge only spare of worth of Rs 5 Lakh shall be borne by the university. Thye old system shall be converted into Grid Connected system which was earlier off-Gri system and non functional since longtime. These initiatives will help TU to generate clean energy and transforming 9into green campus. This project will be inaugurated in next.
