Unruly activity of some ruling BJP members of Sonarpur Panchayat created a setback for constitution of Sonarpur Panchayat under Kanthalia Panchayat Samiti.
Sonarpur was a Gram Panchayat ruled by CPI-M earlier. The panchayat faced many games of formation and deformation like other panchayats when the new government came into power.
According to result of the recent Panchayat by-poll BJP won 5 seats, CPM got 3 seats and Congress got 1 seat. BJP member Mafijur Rahaman created obstruction by becoming candidate against BJP nominated member Khalilur Rahaman for the post of Panchayat Pradhan. At the meeting of Block Panchayat Extension Officer CPM member proposed name of Mafijur against Khalilur as Panchayat Pradhan. After election Mafijur got 7 votes and Kalilur got 2 votes. Mafijur got the votes of CPM, Congress and 2 women members of BJP.
After white washing Kalilur by voting Mafijur proposed name of Billal Mia as Upa Pradhan. But BJP did not accept the misconduct of 3 BJP members. At last it was decided that the final decision will be taken according to Panchayat Act in front of SDM tomorrow. Now people of the village are waiting for the decision.
