Tribute paid to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary

Members of Tripura Pradesh Congress on Monday remembered former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary, and recalled his contribution to the nation.

"On his birth anniversary, we remember former PM Rajiv Gandhi and recall his contribution to the nation," said PCC Chief Birajit Sinha.

However, to commemorate the day PCC Chief Birajit Sinha, Congress MLA Gopal Roy and others paid tribute to the portrait of Rajiv Gandhi at Congress Bhawan followed paying floral tribute at Gandhighat.  National flag was also hoisted at Congress Bhawan.

Rajiv Gandhi, who heralded the information and communication technology revolution in the country, was born on August 20, 1944 and served as the sixth prime minister of India from 1984-1989.

He was assassinated by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) on May 21, 1991 at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu while addressing an election campaign.
